Lime tea

This is lime juice/tea.

Made of  dried limes, sugar and water. It's so good, drunk either pipping hot or refreshingly cold. The taste does take some getting used to, but after that...it's pretty good.

The first time that I remember seeing and tasting dried lime was probably about 3 years ago. Alaa, a friend from Iraq was making some chicken and added a dried lime for flavour. It's not a Chinesey flavour at all, but mytaste buds have kinda grown accustomed to it over the years.

I remember now being introduced to lime tea for the first time at Suhaila's house, even before her babies had been born over two years ago; the limes were boiled in a small pan to make a concentrate and more water and sugar added to complete the drink. Perfect for after a large meal. Since then, I never had it again, until about a couple of weeks ago. Can't say that I loved it, as the taste was so unfamiliar, but it was ok, but when I tried it again last night, I got it....it tasted so familar, yet strange. It tasted just like lemon tea from Hong Kong.

Such a classic drink. It's always there at every meeting, function, outing along with vitasoy soya milk. If you buy a load of it, someone is bound to drink it. It's so so good. But I have no idea why. I guess in HK there are so many different drinks, peopel somehow prefer to drink iced teas, with all sorts of different flavours and combinations. It's kinda healthy, if you excuse the sugar, but it's also an excellent thirst quencher; brilliant for the hot and humid summer months.

Personally, I prefer crysanthenum tea. The package is almost identical, yet tastes so much better. You can get these drinks everywhere; MTR station, 7-11, at the random street vendors, supermarket; these vending machines also appear everywhere and are perfect for dispensing an ice cold drink if you're caught in the middle of nowhere without water.

Sigh....Hong Kong...
