Amal's 'Fatyre'

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

These little treats are delicious tasted fresh from the oven. They are surprisingly quick and easy to make and are incredibily tasty. They are made quite frequently and definately won't last very long! These little meat pastires are especially good during Ramadan, as they are light and easy to eat.

The dough is made using yeast, flour, melted butter and oil. Once left to rise, it is very versatile and can be used to made a whole range of foods. The filling can be made from meat, but other savoury fillings are quite common...including cheese and olives. A sweet version can also be made using cinnamon. The waterwatering smells from the oven is enough to make anyone hungry!

Crossiant version; filled with grated cheese, brushed with egg and sprinkled with onion seeds. A great snack or breakfast item.
